ESA-ESRIN CRYOSAT-2 SAR-MODE SAMOSA-PROCESSED L2 DATASET FOR CRYOSAT+ FOR OCEAN (CP4O) PROJECT -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- $Date: 2014/04/29 $ $Revision: 1.1 $ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PACKAGE CONTENT: - CPP_PAC_SAMOSA_v1.32.zip --> L2 Data Products in the SAR Pacific Box - CPP_NAE_SAMOSA_v1.32.zip --> L2 Data Products in the North Atlantic East Polygon - README.txt --> this file SHORT DESCRIPTION: This is a sample dataset of CryoSat-2 SAR-Mode Level 2 data products processed "SAMOSA's way" at ESA-ESRIN in the frame of STSE CryoSat+ for Ocean (CP4O) Project INPUT: The input dataset is the CNES CPP L1b Data Products. The CPP L1b Data Products have been generated by CNES as from CryoSat-2 SAR FBR (Full Bit Rate) Products (provided by ESA to CNES) after a Delay-Doppler Data Processing on them. The geo-location of the input dataset is the SAR Pacific's Box and North-East Atlantic/West Mediterranean Sea's Polygon. The temporal period of the input dataset is July 2012 and January 2013. The L2 re-tracking processing on the CPP L1b Dataset has been carried out entirely by EOP-SER Altimetry Team in ESA-ESRIN. The versioning of the Software Prototype (SARvatore) used in the processing is 1.32 . STANDARDS: - The Reference Time for the TAI Datation is 01/01/2000 00:00:00 - The Vertical Datum for altitude reference is the Topex/Poseidon Ellipsoid - The SAR Return Power Model is SAMOSA2 with Gaussian PTR approximation corrected by the usage of Look-up Table - The Curve Best-Fitting Scheme is a Bounded Levenberg-Marquardt Least-Squares Estimation Algorithm (LEVMAR-LSE) - No static bias has been applied to the range, wave height and sigma nought measurements - The Doppler Shift Correction has been applied to the range measurements - The internal path delay has been not applied to the range measurements - The orbital altitude has not been corrected for the Time Tag Bias More details on the re-tracker configuration, adopted in the processing, can be consulted here: http://www.satoc.eu/projects/samosa/samosa_config.html The measurements are posted either 20 Hz and 1 Hz rate but without the geo-corrections (not available in input CPP L1b products) and sea state bias correction No data editing has been applied to the measurements The misfit between SAR Waveform Model and SAR Waveform Data has been computed as: sqrt( 1/128*(residuals).^2 )*100 where residuals are the differences between model's return power and data's return power The residuals have been computed ruling out from the data's and model's waveform return power the first 12 and last 12 range bins (CPP standard) FORMAT: The L2 data products are in netCDF format The file naming convention is : RES_[CPP_INPUT_FILENAME].nc where: [CPP_INPUT_FILENAME] is the filename of the CPP data file in input The netCDF format is self-explanatory with all the data field significance described in the attributes DEBUGGING: For any issues, please write to salvatore.dinardo@esa.int, bruno.manuel.lucas@esa.int, jerome.benveniste@esa.int
